Fool's Gold

Be careful and keep your guard up
Against covetousness
For your life does not consist of
The bounty you possess

A man looked at all he had gained
Congratulating self
“Soul, take your ease for I’ve attained
The good life in my wealth”

But then God broke into his thought
“You fool, this very night
Your soul’s required and all you sought
Has left you in your plight”

So is the one who is piling
Up treasure high and broad
But lacks the most important thing
And is not rich toward God
