Yesterday I preached on the true mortification of sin. Today it’s Monday, I’m in my office, and I want to pursue holiness.
Whenever I begin to think deeply about putting my own sin to death, I deal with an overwhelming desire to start making rules and plans and promises. Not that carefully laid plans for waging war against sin are a bad idea, they just don’t have any ACTUAL power to help me fight. On Monday’s like this, where I am renewed in my zeal for holiness, I need to be reminded where all power comes from. Look to God brothers and sisters. You can do all things through Him who strengthens you (Phil 4:13). We will never win our fight against sin on our own. Thankfully, there is One who makes you more than a conqueror through Him who loved you (Rom 8:37). His grace is sufficient (2 Cor 12:9), and He has poured out His Spirit of power to help us (Zech 4:6), with sympathy in His heart (Heb 2:17-18), and mercy at His throne (Heb 4:14-16). The author of thunder, is working in power upon your heart, to form you to the image of Christ, look to Him! Look to your Maker, the everlasting God who loves you and hear His faithful words:
